Highlighting Advances in Treatments and Procedures
Ultrascreen
Ultrascreen combines ultrasound and blood screen to help identify babies who may have Down syndrome, Trisomy 18 or Trisomy 13 as early as 11 weeks into the pregnancy. Ultrascreen offers 91% detection in the first trimester providing answers much earlier in pregnancy than all other Down syndrome screening tests. More info…
Implanon
Implanon is an “implantable” form of birth control that is more than 99% effective and lasts for up to three years. Implanon is a flexible plastic rod the size of a matchstick that is put under the skin of your arm in an in-office procedure. Implanon prevents pregnancy in several ways. The most important way is by stopping release of an egg from your ovary. Implanon also thickens the cervical mucus, which acts as a barrier to prevent sperm from fertilizing an egg. More info…
Essure
Essure is different than the traditional method of a surgical tubal ligation. With Essure, there is no cutting or burning of the body (so there are no unattractive scars). Instead, an Essure trained doctor inserts spring-like coils, called micro-inserts, through the body’s natural pathways (vagina, cervix, and uterus) and into your fallopian tubes. Essure can be performed in an outpatient setting or even a doctor’s office with minimal anesthesia. More info…
Gardasil
Gardasil is a vaccine (injection/shot) that helps protect against the following diseases caused by certain types of Human Papillomavirus (HPV). HPV is a common virus that can develop into cervical cancer, precancerous lesions, or genital warts (depending on the HPV type). More info…
Biologically Identical Hormone Replacement Implants
Hormonal implants are being utilized for hormone replacement after hysterectomy (with ovary removal) and for the treatment of decreased sexual drive. Estrogen and/or testosterone implants are inserted into the fat tissue of the abdominal wall. The implants are inserted once every six months and slowly dissolve in the fat tissue allowing a more “natural” release of hormone into the body. More info…
TVT SECUR System
The TVT SECUR system stops urine leakage the way your body was designed to – by supporting your urethra. In women with stress urinary incontinence, the weakened pelvic floor muscle and connective tissue can’t support the urethra in its normal position. To correct this, a ribbon-like strip of mesh is inserted under the urethra to provide support whenever you stress this area (such as during a cough or sneeze). More info…
Thermachoice
Thermachoice is a treatment option to end heavy periods related to hormonal imbalance or certain uterine fibroids. It is an option if your Pap test and uterine biopsy (a tissue sample from inside the uterus) are normal, and if you have not yet gone through menopause but do not wish to have children in the future. It is a simple, one –time, minimally invasive 8-minute outpatient treatment that uses heat to treat the endometrium (lining of the uterus). Thermachoice is hormone free and unlike a hysterectomy, it allows you to retain your uterus. More info…
PROLIFT
PROLIFT is a new and revolutionary procedure that employs a specially designed supportive soft mesh placed in the pelvis to restore pelvic support in women with weak or damaged pelvic floors. A combination of muscles and ligaments in the pelvis make up a structure called the pelvic floor. The pelvic floor supports the uterus and vagina to keep them in their correct position inside the pelvis. Women with weak or damaged pelvic floors may experience back pain, symptoms of pelvic pressure or pain. They may notice leaking of urine or stool. Many will have the sensation that something is falling out of the vagina. PROLIFT may be able to help. More info…
Laparoscopic Supracervical Hysterectomy
Laparoscopic Supracervical Hysterectomy (LSH) should be an option to consider if you are planning a hysterectomy. LSH is a minimally invasive procedure that does not require the surgeon to make a large abdominal incision therefore you will not have the same kind of visible scar typical with most traditional, “open” surgeries. The procedure can be done on an outpatient basis, which means a woman can be home resting comfortably within 24 hours and back to normal activities in less than a week. More info…
