Appointments

We know your time is valuable and we make every effort to be on time for appointments. However, there may be patient emergencies in the office or at the hospital which cause schedule delays. We will let you know as soon as we know that there is a delay. We appreciate your cooperation and will work with you in any way we can.

Some patients may be seen first even though they arrived after you. We have several physicians in the office at one time, the other patient may be on a different providers schedule. If you have waited in the lobby for longer than 30 minutes, please check back with the receptionist.

If you are acutely ill, call us as early in the day as possible. We will make every effort to see you that day. If an actual appointment time is not available we will work you in with the first available provider. If you do not need immediate treatment, we will schedule an appointment for the next available day. It is important that you arrive on time for your appointments. If you are unable to keep your appointment, we request that you notify us at least two hours in advance. Missing more than three appointments without notifying us may result in dismissal from the practice.

Please do not ask for family members to be seen when only you have an appointment. This makes it impossible to observe our schedule. Please call before coming in if someone needs a work-in appointment for urgent care.

Reception Area

Please arrange for childcare for those who do not have an appointment. We cannot guarantee the availability of a staff person to look after an unattended child.

Our seating is limited and we want our patients and their necessary drivers to be comfortable. Please limit the number of persons who accompany you for your visits.

Seeing the Physician

In order to provide the best possible service, very ill patients are always taken to the treatment area first. You will be called as soon as a room is available in your provider’s area. Please keep in mind that each provider’s schedule moves differently. If an emergency arises and your doctor is late or unavailable, you have the option of either rescheduling your appointment or seeing another provider.

Telephone Messages

To be fair to scheduled patients, we make every effort not to interrupt our physicians and practitioners during a patient visit. Your call will be taken by one of our well-trained staff members. Please answer any questions they have for you. If necessary, arrangements will be made to return your call at a specified time. Working messages through our receptionist will allow us to serve your needs as quickly as possible. If you feel that it is urgent that you speak with a nurse or a certified medical assistant, notify the receptionist. Someone will speak with you immediately if you feel that you have an emergency.

We routinely review messages at the end of the clinic schedule and answer them before the end of each day. Calls after 3:00 pm (except for emergencies) and requests for prescriptions will be addressed the following business day. Our first priority is caring for the patients in the clinic. Please be patient, we will return your call. Often we must consult the provider and obtain your medical record before we can address your concern.

Most medical problems are not treatable by telephone; they will often require an office exam. Please note: antibiotics are not routinely prescribed over the phone. Narcotic pain medications will not be authorized over the phone – and office visit is required if you are having pain.

Prescription Refills

For medication refills, call (740) 594-8819 during regular business hours. Please allow 24 to 48 hours when requesting a refill. Some medications require blood work and evaluations before they can be refilled. If you are due for an evaluation, please call for an appointment.

Medical Forms

Most medical forms require extra time for completion. You may mail them to us at 75 Hospital Drive, Suite 260, Athens, Ohio 45701. If you have an appointment, you may bring them with you. Please allow 2-3 business days for us to complete these forms. Be sure to include a mailing address for us to return them or let us know if you will be picking them up yourself.

Fees and Payments

Our practice strives to hold down the cost of patient care. If you have a question regarding the fees for a particular service, please ask.

All office services and/or co-payments are paid at the time of the visit. We do not wish to cause embarrassment or hardship for any patient. Please let us know immediately if you have a financial question or problem.

Medical Insurance information

  • No insurance covers “everything” or “100%”. There are always limitations and exclusions to coverage. There are out-of-pocket costs for all patients.
  • Even with two or more insurance plans there may be amounts or services not covered and for which the patient is directly responsible.
  • All insurance has patient cost-sharing requirements – they are called deductibles and co-payments.
  • Some services may require pre-authorization from your insurance plan and may need to be scheduled for a later appointment date.
  • “Assignment” simply means the patient requests insurance payment be made directly to the physician. This is not payment in full. The patient is responsible for the designated balance.

If your insurance company requires a referral before you go to see another doctor, please call us in advance so that we may complete the necessary referral forms. If the physician directs you to go to the emergency department after clinic hours, call us the next business day. Your insurance company may not pay for these services without a referral.

Thank you for choosing River Rose Obstetrics & Gynecology for your healthcare needs. Our goal is to make your experience here as pleasant as possible. If you have questions, concerns or comments on how we can provide even better service, please let us know.
